Gremlins, Goblins, and Ghouls Oh My! Blog Hop

Welcome to day two of Ghoulish Halloween inspiration.
I love Halloween, mostly the cutesy fun part.
Nothing too gore-ish or gruesome for me.  And I can't do scary movies!
Mr. Boodegy is my limit. lol

But I do love treats and cute ways to pass them along.

This year I made some festive triangle pouches for some special little Gremlins and Goblins.

I used up some of my fun Halloween Prints for these.

These are super quick to sew up, and hold lots of sweet goodies.

There are many different tutorials on the web on how to make these, just search for Triangle Pouch and you are bound to find one that fits your style.

I tried two different types, both with an inside lining: A zipper on the edge and a zipper in the middle.

Can't wait to fill these up and pass them along!

I have also been working on another spooky project.

The pattern is Bats by Cluck Cluck Sew.

I cut out all the pieces for it last year and started making the blocks this year.

These are big blocks and are going together pretty quick.

I am hoping to have it finished in time for the Family Halloween party on the 31st.

I have been asked to do some party games.
A spooky bat quilt would make a nice grand prize...

Be sure to hop on over to the other sites below to see more spookiness!

Happy Sewing!

Ghastly Ghouls Blog Hop

Welcome to day two of the Ghastly Ghouls Blog.  Thanks to Carol of Just Let Me Quilt for hosting!
I love playing along with the Halloween Hop each year.

This year I knew my October would be super busy but I still wanted to play along and create something fun for Halloween and use up some of the good Halloween prints I have, so I decided to go with a quick quilt pattern, and one I have made before:  The Chevron quilt aka Zig Zag Quilt.

The top was super fast to put together and I had plenty of orange and black Halloween prints to choose from.  From fabric selection to the last row stitched together, I had the top together in about 4 1/2 hours.

There are two really good tutorials on the internet you can use if you want to make your own.

and

When the top was done I picked out some spooky fabric for the back: some cute bats with a hint of green in the moon light.  With the back done I knew the quilting would only take a few more hours and I could have a nice quick project done in a weekend.

But I kept staring at the newly pieced back and decided it wasn't the right fit for the black and orange top.  I felt like it would go better with a different color version of chevrons.

So instead of loading this on the machine to quilt the top I just made, I picked out another batch of fabrics for a new top that blends better with the my newly pieced backing.

Something with a few more greens and a touch of orange.
I'll be cutting these out tonight!

Who makes a backing first and then picks fabrics for the top??  Me I guess.  Haha!

Be sure to check out the other hoppers today and see their Ghastly Ghouly projects.

Happy Haunting...er Quilting!!

Nifty Novelties Blog Hop - Halloween Version

Welcome to the last day of the Nifty Novelties Blog Hop hosted by Seams To Be Sew!  This hop is all about using novelty prints.  They are super cute to buy (I should know, I have a shelf full) but sometimes you might not know what to make with them and this hop can help.  Today I am happy to show off my Spooktacular project and hopefully pass on some inspiration.

This pattern is called Chain Link by Amy Smart.  It is perfect for 5 inch novelty squares.

I've had some of these prints for years and used them in various projects.
It was fun to use up some of the left overs and put them all together in this project.

This pattern was super fast to put together.  I got the whole top done in one day.

I did shorten it from the orginal, but I can still see the full size pattern being sewn up in one day if you have a good chunk of time to sew.

Another good use for Novelty fabrics is for quilt backing.  I have had this Halloween novelty for a while as well.  I bought it on sale one time after Halloween was over.  I love the characters on it, but the cream background never seemed to go with any of the Halloween projects I was working on.  Today it now has a home on the back of this quilt.  My top came out at 43 inches and it was going to be a stretch to make this 44 inch wide fabric fit, so I went ahead and split it in two and added a  large strip of one of my pumpkin fabrics to get it big enough to work with.

*GiveAway*

Timeless Treasures fabric company graciously sent Marian from Seams to Be Sew some fabulous novelty fabric bundles to give away for this hop.

I get to show of is this owl bundle and it is up for a giveaway.  Use the Rofflecopter below to enter the giveaway+.  Just keep in mind Marian is asking winners to pay shipping, $4 for USA and more for international shipping. She will contact the winners.

Witchy Stitchy Blog Hop

Welcome to the opening day of the Witchy Stitchy Blog Hop hosted by Carol of Just Let Me Quilt.
I am happy to help start the week!

For this hop I focused on making small fabric decorative items.  One was done in less than an hour and the last one I split up in three days.

First up I have some small treat totes to show off.  I have made these before and even for a previous Halloween hop years ago, but I love them and had new ones to show off, so here they are again.  They are super quick to sew up. Once you make one, you can knock out the other three in less than an hour.

All four together only takes two fat quarters and some ribbon. They are fun to fill with treats and hand out to the special little monsters in your life.  The pattern is a free pattern from All People Quilt.

Another quick Halloween stitch project is this striped pumpkin.   It uses batting scraps and is made somewhat similar to the Jelly Roll Rugs.  The pattern is Festive Pumpkins by Aunties Two.  They also have bags patterns using this similar technique that I am itching to try.  I have a nice roll of leftover batting I cut into 2.5 strips waiting to be used.  This one took me about 2 hours to put together.  Now that I did the first one, when I make more they should come together a little quicker.

Last but definitely not least is Patch the Kitty from Funky Friends Factory by Pauline.  He is a patchwork of Halloween spookiness!  He did take several hours, but is doable in one day if you have good chunk of sewing time.  I split him up into three days. I worked on him about an hour before going to work two days in a row, then finished him up Saturday morning when I had a good few hours in the sewing room.

I love him and the Funky Friends patterns!  Not only are Pauline's instructions wonderful, there is also a link in the pattern that takes you to a page with picture instructions that follow along with her written instructions.  That link was so helpful for me.

Check out her Website to see all the Friends in the line up.  You can buy and download the patterns on her website or throw one in your cart next time you are shopping at Missouri Star.

And make sure to check out all the other Stitchy Witchy Blog Hoppers today and the rest of the week.

That 70's Halloween Quilt - 1st Finish Q3 FAL

I know it is supposed to be Christmas in July not Halloween in July, but I finished my first UFO for the third Quarter of the 2019 Finish-A-Long and had to post it.

This one was started in October 2014 when I was doing the Black Cat Crossing Blog Hop.

It is a pattern called "That 70's Quilt" from the book Strip Savvy by Kate Henderson.

I had made several projects for Black Cat Crossing hop and this was a final project I started with some of the leftovers of the zig zag quilt.  I didn't have enough background fabric to finish it though, so it got put on the UFO pile while I waited for that fabric to come in.  Then other projects kept it on the UFO pile.

I almost had it finished for the fourth quarter Finish-A-Long of 2018. I got the whole top together In October that year and I was about to start quilting it when I realized I had left out some fabric pieces.  Ack!

In my haste to get the sashing added four years later, I didn't look back at the pattern and I sewed all the blocks and sashing together before adding the background corner triangles to each square and I totally left out the cornerstones!  So much for thinking I remembered what it was supposed to look like.
I contemplated keeping it the way it was, but the actual pattern looked so much better to me, so I unstitched all the sashing enough to get to the corners of the blocks and redid it.  It didn't take too long, just one night and a good movie to listen to and I am so glad I did it.

It is now stored with the Halloween quilts and will come back out at the end of September when we decorate for the fall.

The Back.

Peak a Who? Blog Hop

Welcome to my day of the Peak a Who? blog hop.  Hosted by Marian of Seams to Be Sew.  I have a few items to show today that I have worked on over the past few months.

First up, I wanted to tackle an old Halloween UFO.  I created one just like it several years ago in 2010 as part of the "La Petite - A Year of Small Projects" challenge. This pattern is called Paganini from Ms. Rosie's Quilt company and is designed for Charm Packs. When I first cut out the project I used several 5 inch strips from my yardage instead of a charm pack.  This method left me with way too much left over fabric for one quilt.  So I decided I would cut enough for two quilts, which I did.  I made the first quilt right away.  The  second one... well....

I played with it again in 2015 hoping to finish it as part of the 2015 Finish-A-Long.  I made some good progress on it and got the top done and even got the backing and batting picked out but that was it.

The next several months it got moved around and put on hold while other projects moved to the top of the to do list. It has been sitting and waiting its turn for quilting, until now.

I finally finished it as part of the third quarter of the 2018 Finish-A-Long and today am excited to show it off  to you all as part of the Peek A Who? blog hop.

And check out who is peeking around on the back.

Another one of my Spooky creations was a Halloween tote bag.

Look Who is peeking out on the front!  He was made for a Spooky Tote Swap I joined.  I actually made two identical bats. One for each side of the bag.

The paper pieced bat pattern is called midnight Bite and is from Lillyella.com. The tote pattern also comes from Lillyella.com and is a free tutorial here. The fun part of this swap was knowing who my spooky partner was.  Most the swaps I have joined are blind swaps and you don't know who your partner is till the package lands on your doorstep.   I like this way better because it allows me to get to know a new quilty friend.

This is the fantastic tote I got I got from my partner.  It is amazing what a few fabric changes can do to a pattern. And check out the fantastic embroidered witch on the back.  She even glows in the dark!

My final project is till a flimsy, mainly because of this.

My ruler foot broke on my quilting machine, I wasn't even using my quilt rulers at the time or going over any seams, just doing and all over filler in a solid piece of fabric.  Next thing I know the machine jumps and I'm out one presser foot.  So quilting on this next project will be delayed.  But not for too long, a new presser foot is already in the mail heading my way.

Not too long ago I fell in love with One Block Wonder quilts.  I have already made two and have two more cut out and I have already purchased fabric for 3 more.  What can I say, I'm hooked.

This summer I discovered One Block Wonders using panels and I had to have one of my own.
This hop was the perfect reason to buy a fabulous Halloween panel.
Seven panels to be exact.
One for the center and one to cut up.

After several different layouts options I ended up with this one. I love how the hexagons carry the distorted image away to the edges.  I can see myself making many more of these!  I think I may try it without the inner border on my next one and see how that comes out.

Make sure to visit all the other Sites today and visit any of the others you may have missed throughout the week, they have some great projects!  Scroll even further for giveaways from Fat Quarter Shop and Timeless Treasures.
