Jelly Roll Race - 4th Finish Q3 2019 FAL

I'm on a roll!  I finished the quilting and binding on this Jelly Roll Race quilt the other day.
It is now ready for snuggling under.

This makes my 4th finish for the third quarter of the 2019 Finish-A-Long.

I started this one in June when I was showing some quick quilting ideas to the class I teach.

I knew this one would be a quick finish since I had the top done at the beginning of the quarter.

With a plan to quilt a quick all over design on it, I put it on this quarter's list hoping it wouldn't turn into a UFO sitting on the pile year after year.

I am happy to have this one finished and so quick.  It is colorful and bright and makes me happy to look at it.

I used some of my older fabrics from my stash for the backing.  These Sea Turtles make the perfect companion for beach photos.
This one measures approximately 57 x 64.

Half Sqaure Triangle Quilt and 3rd finish for Q3 FAL

This quilt is the second quilt I taught in the beginner quilt class I teach. This is the version I sewed along with the students.

I wanted the class to be able to tackle Half Square Triangles since they are used in so many different quilt blocks.

What better way to learn them, than to make a whole bunch of them and turn them into a quilt.  We used 5 inch squares and the two at time method to create our HSTs for our quilts.

I like splitting my yardage in half for backings and adding a coordinating strip in the middle or slightly offset. I feel like I have less left overs when I do it this way.

Making a quilt with just HSTs also gave the class a chance to fiddle around with their own design layouts, which was fun.

Below are a few of the layouts the students came up with.  It is fun to see all the different color ways and layouts everyone came up with.

Catrina's

Derricka's

Miyako's

Sherryll's

This quilt is also my 3rd finish for the third quarter of the 2019 Finish-A-Long.

This one just barely turned into a UFO when I put it aside to work on a couple other projects.

I didn't want it to stay on the UFO pile though, so I added it to the list this quarter. All it needed was some quilting and binding and now I have another completed quilt.  Yay!

Pink Bricks - 2nd Finish for Q3 FAL

My second finish for Q3 of the 2019 Finish-A-Long.  Wow, I can't believe it! Two finishes already this quarter.  I have already doubled last quarter finishes.  Haha!

I think it helped my sew-jo by putting small, almost completed projects on the list.  This one had been a top waiting for quilting.  It is about 34 x 40 inches. Once I got it on the machine, it only took about 35 minute to quilt using this all over quilt design.

I started this one sometime in 2018.  I think in the spring.

This is one of the few that I don't have an actual start date for but I do remember having a lot of pink "bricks" cut out so I whipped this little top together to have a gift ready to go in case a baby girl ever comes around.

Now it is finished and ready for gifting.

That 70's Halloween Quilt - 1st Finish Q3 FAL

I know it is supposed to be Christmas in July not Halloween in July, but I finished my first UFO for the third Quarter of the 2019 Finish-A-Long and had to post it.

This one was started in October 2014 when I was doing the Black Cat Crossing Blog Hop.

It is a pattern called "That 70's Quilt" from the book Strip Savvy by Kate Henderson.

I had made several projects for Black Cat Crossing hop and this was a final project I started with some of the leftovers of the zig zag quilt.  I didn't have enough background fabric to finish it though, so it got put on the UFO pile while I waited for that fabric to come in.  Then other projects kept it on the UFO pile.

I almost had it finished for the fourth quarter Finish-A-Long of 2018. I got the whole top together In October that year and I was about to start quilting it when I realized I had left out some fabric pieces.  Ack!

In my haste to get the sashing added four years later, I didn't look back at the pattern and I sewed all the blocks and sashing together before adding the background corner triangles to each square and I totally left out the cornerstones!  So much for thinking I remembered what it was supposed to look like.
I contemplated keeping it the way it was, but the actual pattern looked so much better to me, so I unstitched all the sashing enough to get to the corners of the blocks and redid it.  It didn't take too long, just one night and a good movie to listen to and I am so glad I did it.

It is now stored with the Halloween quilts and will come back out at the end of September when we decorate for the fall.

The Back.

One Block Wonder - Blue Heron Panel

This is my second One Block Wonder using a panel

I saw this Panel made into a OBW on the One Block Wonder Quilt Forum Facebook Group and knew I had to make one.

The first panel I used last fall on the Halloween OBW  had a border around the panel.
This time I wanted to skip the border and have the hexagons blend with the panel.

I cut my original strips 2 3/4 inches and got a lot of small hexagons to work with.
I used almost all of them for this quilt.

Finding the perfect layout took quite a while.

I had it up on the design wall for a long time and moved hexagons around several times till I found a layout that spoke to me.

I pressed all the seams open.
Makes it lay flatter and easier to quilt.

For the quilting, I wanted to carry the design elements from the panel into the hexagons.

I used the quilting to follow the curve of the clouds on through to the hexagons. For the rest of the panel I traced the bird and the lilies in with the thread.

The rest of the hexagons got an all over flower meander.

These One Block wonder quilts are addicting.
I have already purchased fabric to make a couple more.

With this one finished I can cross one item off my list for the second quarter Finish-A-Long for 2019.  Yay! I finally have a UFO finished off my list for the first time in a long time.  Each quarter I usually work a little on a lot of them, but never finish one.  So I'm super excited to have one completed!!  This one was started in December of 2018 and I finished it, complete with label and hanging sleeve, in June 2019.
