Project Quilting 9.1 - Hometown Proud - Murrells Inlet, SC

The first theme for Project Quilting this year was Hometown Proud.
I first thought about doing my current hometown, we have a great art festival each year in April, called Artfileds and some great re-vitalization going on downtown, but I wasn't sure how to turn that into a quilt.

Then I thought about my hometown as a kid and where we spent a lot of time as a family and I realized I still spend a lot of time there as an adult with my own kids.  Then it hit me what to make.

I decided to make a quilt showcasing the Marsh from Murrells Inlet, SC.
I didn't actual live in Murrells Inlet, but I did live in Myrtle Beach which is right next door, and I have spent many Saturdays throughout my life in Murrells Inlet.

I started by going through my batik scraps and pulling out my greens, blues, and browns.

Pieced them all together horizontally in different strip widths.

Trimmed them up.

Added a couple egrets, there are always white egrets at the marsh, and quilted it up.

The water at my marsh isn't this blue, but the grasses do get a nice bright green in the summer.

Voting opens at 1pm EST

The quilt measures 40 x 20.

These next few pictures are what I used for inspiration.

One of my favorite places to be.  This is at the end of the Jetties at Huntington Beach state park.  Marsh on one side, ocean on the other.

The marsh grass is super green right after the rain.
There are always birds to be seen

This day I was lucky enough to see Roseate Spoonbills.
They only come for a short time to visit our area and then move on.

This was us,the canoe too, on Christmas Eve last year.
Collecting oysters, clams, and crabbing.  We tried fishing a little too, but no luck that day with fish.
The Marsh grass isn't as green in the winter, but its still just as muddy.

Fancy Foxes 2.0

I finished my Fancy Fox Quilt in time to link up with the 4th Quarter Finish-A-Long for 2017.
You can see the link party here: 4th Quarter Link Up
Check out everyone's finishes for the last quarter:

I had the top completed about a month ago and quilted and bound it last night.
This is my third and final finish for this Quarter and one of the best quarters I have had in a long time in regards to finishing old projects.  I usually work a little bit on some of them and don't finish any.  So I am super excited to finish three UFO's this time around.
You can see my original 4th Quarter UFO list here:  Ambitious 4th Quarter List

This quilt came about from a jelly roll I bought to make one quilt.  The Jelly roll actually had enough to make two quilts.  The first one was made in winter of 2015 and gifted to my friend. I cut out the pieces to make this second one at that time as well. This winter I finally finished my version.

Twin quilts in two different states.  Same fabrics, slightly different fox arrangement.
Like BFF charms.  :)

One Block Wonder - Poinsettia Version

I ordered this Michael Miller Scarlet Poinsetta Black fabric from Fabric.com on November 28.

It arrived Dec 2 and I cut it up that same night.

I also started sewing some of the hexagons together that night.

I spent the next few days finishing those up.

Then I put them on the design wall to decide on a layout.

I decided to go with the first one I put on the wall.
I rearranged a few blocks to keep with the design, but that was about it.

It quilted up super fast on my long arm.
I used an all over flower design.

I let it sit on the machine till I had a chance to get the binding on.

Which I did right before Christmas. Just in time to give away to a special someone.

And here's the back.

Tula Pink Pinwheels

This quilt started out from left overs from the Tula Jaybird Mini quilt swap.

I was going to make another mini, but changed my mind and decided to go a little bigger and make a lap quilt.

The fabric I used is Eden from Tula Pink.

I also decided to add triangles between the Pinwheels for a different look.

I spent a couple days deciding on a layout. Moving Pinwheels around trying to disperse the colors evenly. Mostly the yellows since the stick out the most.

Then my kitty Boonky supervised the sewing of rows.

I sewed the rows in pairs, then pairs again to help prevent the quilt top from distorting.

For the backing I used the rest of the Kona gray I bought. It wasn't quite big enough though so I added a few pieces of Eden that were left over.

Quilting is done.

Took it to the beach for a photo shoot

It was a bright Sunny day on the pier.

Starburst Lonestars Finished

 Another UFO finished today.
I started this one in January 2014 for the Kona Solid Blog hop.
You can see the original post here.

In January 2014 I had the top pieced and had quilted all the stars using my domestic machine. Then it got folded up and sat for a long time while other projects got finished first.

In October I got myself a new toy. The first thing I quilted on it was my Zebra quilt top (I still need to get a finished picture of that one). Then I looked through my UFO pile to find another top to play with and I came across this quilt in the pile.  It was already half quilted and trimmed for binding.

I wasn't sure if I could load a trimmed quilt onto my long-arm, but it worked no problem. I had already quilted in the ditch in all the sashing, and had a few lines marked for the white so I got to it and finished all the background quilting.

I did some quick feathers in the blue border and finished the binding this morning.

Another UFO off the list!

That makes two for this quarter for the 2017 Finish-A-long.

Yay! I have already doubled my last quarter finishes.
I'm on a roll. See my ambitious list here.

I did have a little bit of trouble loading the quilt on the frame, but it wasn't due to anything I had done. My kitty Boonky decided he wanted to roll around in it while I was pinning it onto the machine.  I finally had to free him up for other play opportunities in the other parts of the house.

Carolina Lily Lonestar - Round 2

A few weeks ago,  RJR fabrics asked me to create my Carolina Lily Lonestar quilt using one of their new fabric lines.   I jumped at the chance to use their Blossom Batik Splash line by Flaurie and Finch

Everything got sewn together and shipped in time for them to take it to Quilt Market this weekend to help showcase the new fabric line that will be available in stores in March of 2018.

This version measures approximately 59 inch square.

If you want to make one of your own, you can get it at my PayHip store.

Enter If You Dare Blog Hop

Welcome to the Enter If You Dare Blog Hop!

There have been lots of spooktacular projects during the hop so far.  Today I get to add mine!
For this hop I played around with a paper piecing pattern called Owl, Cat, and Bat by Quilt Art Designs.  The pattern went together rather nicely using fabric from my stash and now I have three new cute little Halloween friends to hang in my living room this season.

Make sure you check out the other hoppers today to see what they have created:

B is for Bentley...

B is for Blue fabrics...

B is for Blue fabrics sewn into Blue Bricks...

B is for Blue fabric sewn into Blue Bricks and Boats...

B is for Blue fabric sewn into Blue Bricks and Boats and Bentley.

I made this quilt for a co-worker.  I designed the boats using EQ7.  They are similar to boat blocks I saw on the internet and altered a bit.  The letters come from Quiet Play and her Geometric Alphabet.
