Starry Seas Blog Hop

Welcome the the Starry Seas Blog hop! Jennifer Fulton of Inquiring quilter asked me to help showcase her Island Batik Signature fabric line, Starry Seas, this week and I was more than happy to help!

She sent me all the fabric I needed for the top and after some fiddling around with EQ and color placement I was ready to sew!

I am calling this quilt Star Currents.

I decided to focus on stars for this quilt and made three my focus points in the center of the quilt.

The quilt is made up of 12 blocks surrounded by large sashing and cornerstones and measures approximately 63 x 79 inches.

I am loving how the oranges and different shades of blue play so well together.

Tilted Christmas Berries - Island Batik December Project

Today I am excited to show off my newest Christmas quilt!

Island Batik Ambassadors were given the assignment to create what ever they wanted this month and having the freedom to choose anything to make turned out to be the hardest part of the challenge for me. I always struggle to narrow it down to one thing I want to make when we have the freedom to make what ever we want.

The idea for this quilt finally came when I was writing up the pattern my my Tilted Berries pattern. I made that quilt in October when I was helping Jennifer of Curliecue Creations promote her Island Batik Signature fabric line, Berry Crush.

I needed to test out my math in the pattern and I also wanted to make a simpler version of the quilt and with it being so close to Christmas, I opted to test the pattern with Red, Green, and a few neutrals.

I went to my Island Batik Stash and pulled out a variety of prints. A few older prints from the shelf, some leftovers from other projects, and even a few strips from several stash builder rolls.

The simpler version of this quilt sewed up pretty quick, which was good for me as I was short on time the past couple months. I had family in town, Holiday festivities to take part in, and to top it off, I was finishing up classes for a masters degree!

But now, with most of the holiday parties over, and my last homework assignment turned in I was able to get back in the sewing room and finish this one up.

I didn't get any good shots this time of some of the extra products I used from the Lumin Fabric industry partners as I was rushing to get this done in time for Christmas, but as always, I sewed and quilted it with Schmetz needles and did my pressing with my M3 Pro mini iron from Oliso.

I did my "go to" swirly line quilting and had it on and off the frame within an hour.
It is a small quilt so it was fast to quilt up.

I am calling this one Tilted Christmas Berries.

Virtual Christmas Cookie Exchange and a Quick Last Minute Project Idea

Hi all and welcome to the first day of the Virtual Christmas Cookie Exchange Blog Hop, hosted by Carol of Just Let Me Quilt.

This is a fun hop showing off Christmas projects and cookies and I am excited to help kick it off!

For my project, I whipped up three jewelry pouches.

I used some larger left over Island Batik scraps I had from other projects.

You only need four circles to make one pouch, two big ones and two medium ones.

And I pulled some left over prints that played well with each other.

These pouches are perfect for traveling and are fairly easy to make.

I used a old pattern from a magazine for mine, but a quick you tube search for "Jewelry Pouch" will pull up several tutorials if you want to make a few of your own for quick gift giving.

And if you don't want to give them empty, you can put a few cookies in them.

I found this fun Unicorn sprinkle mix with a cookie recipe on the back and thought it would be fun to try.

They turned out pretty good and they are quite colorful. If you decorate in candy themes for Christmas, these are the perfect cookies to leave out for Santa!

Timeless Traditions Island Batik Blog Hop

Welcome! It's my day to show off the Island Batik Hello Sunshine line by Jerry Khiev of Lumin Fabrics as part of the Timeless Traditions blog hop, sponsored by Lumin Fabrics.

This month, Island Batik Ambassadors are showing off all the new Island Batik Fabric lines heading to stores and I got to play with Hello Sunshine!

I love the fun bright and the orange and pink hues!

Part of the challenge of this hop was to use at least five different traditional blocks and have them blend together to make one quilt. I ended up using 7 different blocks with each block showcasing a different print in fabric line.

I used four Sawtooth Star blocks.

Five eight inch Pinwheel Mosaic blocks and four at four inches.

Sixteen Flying Geese blocks.

Four Economy Blocks.

28 darker Quarter Square Triangles and 20 lighter ones.

I had the right size die to help me cut out the triangles for my 4 inch finished quarter square triangles.

I like the triangle dies from AccuQuilt as they cut perfect size triangles without having to trim down later. So I was glad I had the right size die for this one.

Sixteen half Square Triangles and sixteen Four Patches which I turned into...

Eight Buck Eye Beauty Blocks. This block has several different names, but I first saw it as the Buckeye Beauty block, so that is what I call it.

My mini Oliso M3Pro was on hand to press each unit!

When you put all the blocks together they create a cheerful quilt that radiates light and joy, just like the Hello Sunshine fabrics it’s made from.

I wanted a layout that felt classic but still full of movement, so I let the flying geese guide the eye across the quilt.

like a crisp fall morning under a clear blue sky, tying everything together with those golden center squares. With the light inner border, I sued all twenty prints from the fabric line.

I quilted it using a Schmetz 90/14 universal needle and some light orange, almost peach, Aurifil thread. It matched all the colors perfectly and wasn't too overwhelming on the white background.

I quilted it with some all-over swirls and squiggly lines that give it a fun texture and fit right in with the cheerful colors.

I am calling this one Chasing Sunshine.
