Both of these quilts have been part of my UFO journey this year, and it feels pretty great to finally call them finished!
Orange Spider Web Quilt
I started my Orange Spider Web quilt back in 2012. Yes, 2012! This quilt has been sitting around for years as I had to over come some design challenges along the way and the decision on how I wanted to quilt it.
That finally changed last year around this same time when I moved it to the top of my UFO list for finishing and I finally got the top done, but then it sat again.
The first hold up was design issues and this second hold up was the quilting. I knew I wanted the quilting to complement the spider web design, but I couldn't settle on a design to actually put the quilt on the longarm. So I let it sit as I tackled other UFOs on my pile.
I really wanted this one done by Halloween this year so about a month ago I finally sat down and came up with a quilting design I liked. I quilted the large black areas with a feathery design and added quilting around the borders and other areas of the quilt.
For the orange triangles, I decided not to quilt them. I wanted them to remain a little puffy, which gives the quilt some extra texture.
And then came the part every UFO addict loves...
The binding went on, and it was FINISHED!
After more than a decade of waiting, my Orange Spider Web quilt is finally ready to be part of my Halloween decorating. I love that my UFO challenge pushed me to stop thinking about this quilt and actually finish it.
Halloween Stars and Windows
This is the Stars and Windows Halloween quilt kit from Riley Blake, a kit featuring a pattern by Flamingo Toes. I bought the kit on sale in December of 2025, and it came with 21 fat quarters along with the background, border and binding fabric.
I know some people don't count kits as UFOs, but kits do one of the hardest parts of a project, picking out the fabric, so with a pattern and fabric picked out on my shelf, that is a UFO for me.
When I first started working on it, I was pleasantly surprised by how quickly the big blocks came together. This helped the whole quilt sew together fast.
For the quilting, I went with all-over swirls with pumpkins, which seemed like the perfect finish for this Halloween quilt.
I added the binding right away and it was officially finished!
Two Finishes, One UFO Challenge
These two quilts couldn't be more different in one important way.
But both of them are proof of why I love the personal UFO challenge I started in January of 2025, where I challenged myself to spending at least 15 minutes a day working on my on unfinished projects.
You can keep up with my UFO sewing journey on my YouTube channel. I still have a large list of UFOs to tackle and I update my progress every Wednesday.
Check out my most recent progress and leave a comment or two. All the support helps keep me motived to get my UFO list down to zero!

Join the TGIFF Link Party
Do you have a quilt you've recently finished?
Maybe it's a UFO you've been working on forever. Maybe it's something you started just a few weeks ago. Maybe you finally finished the binding on a quilt that has been sitting in the "almost done" pile.
Whatever you've finished, I want to see it!
Add your finished quilt to the TGIFF link party below and visit the other links to see what everyone else has been making.
And while you're visiting, leave a little comment and let another quilter know you stopped by. We all love a little encouragement when we finally get those projects across the finish line!
