June's Quilt

Lately I have been so busy quilting that I haven't had time to get the camera out and take pictures so it may look like I quilted three big quilts in two days, but in reality it took me longer than that.  My latest quilted finish is June's patriotic quilt.  I finished the quilting on this one yesterday.
June did a great job piecing this one and it was fun to examine all of the different fabrics she used as I quilted over it.  I used another variegated thread for this quilt. This time red white and blue thread.
I went with an all over star swirl design to match the patriotic feel of the quilt.
Perfect quilt for the month of July.

Beverly's Last Two Quilts

This is the third quilt that Beverly asked me to quilt for her.
She asked for an all over design and left the specifics up to me.

For the quilting, I did my all over leafy swirl pattern.
Since there was a lot of orange in this quilt I decided to use an orange variegated thread.
I love how the orange thread makes the leaves pop out on the dark blue border.

This next quilt is the fourth and last quilt Beverly asked me to quilt.
The blocks look totally different from the quilt above, but they really are pretty close to being the same.
All you have to do is swap the color placement of the flying geese.
The top version makes a diamond block, the bottom makes a star block.
It's amazing what fabric/color placement can do to a block.

I had a lovely green variegated thread that went perfect with this quilt.
I did swirls again for this quilt, but this time added five petaled flowers between the swirls.  My daughter came up while I was working on this one and told me they look like clovers to her.
If clovers have five petals then sure, they can be clovers.  :)

I am excited to be dropping these off at Beverly's tomorrow.

Beverly's Second Quilt

This was the other item I finished up on FNSI.
It was mostly complete when I started for the night, I just had to finish up some quilting in a few of the circles.

Beverly she said this top was made by her sister-in-law and has a very special place in her heart.  Beverly's sister-in-law pieced it when she was about 12 years of age. She got the fabrics from her grandmother and great grandmother. Then in 1991 before she died, she sent the top to Beverly from Anchorage Alaska.  At first Beverly wasn't sure if I could quilt it since it was sewn together kind of wonky,  I tried to iron it real good, but it was difficult. I kept ironing new creases when I tried to get rid of old ones. So I did the best I could with pressing and then basted it.  With a little time, patience, and a lot of fudging of fabric I was able to quilt it up for Beverly.  It does have a few puckers in it from odd seams but I think it turned out wonderful and am glad that I was able to help make it a finished quilt.  It has its own beautiful unique charm.

All the different fabrics in it were wonderful to look at and were all so soft.

Beverly's Quilt

Here is the first of four quilts I am working on for Beverly.
She has pieced a beautiful Trip Around the World quilt.

I quilted an all over flower loop design for her.

Tonight for "Friday Night Sew In" I plan adding the final stitches to her second quilt.

After that is finished I plan on working on my Mondo Bag.
Hopefully if I can stay in my productive mode and get them all finished.

Martha's Quilt

This is the quilt I quilted for Martha at the end of April.
It was her entry to the Swamp Fox Quilter's 2012 Challenge.

She used so many different wonderful batiks in this quilt!

And her piecing was superb.  It really made this quilt a breeze to work on.

I LOVE this backing!  How awesome is that!

Martha asked for somthing ferny and woodsy in the quilting. I quilted each diagonal row alternating loopy feathers and what I thought looked like fern leaves. My kids said it reminded them of fire.
I also did the fern leaves in the brown border.

I really enjoyed working on this quilt.  Great piecing and great colors!
and Martha won 2nd place in the Guild show for "Best Piecing"!
Gratz Martha!!!

Lots of Quilting Going On

I spent the past couple weeks busy quilting.  Some of my own stuff and some for others.  A couple of them are for my guild  quilt show in June.  I am so excited to show them off, but I don't want to spoil any surprises so I will only post some teasers of those.
This is the quilt I turned in for the show.  It was a kit from Connecting Threads that my mom gave me for Christmas a couple years ago.  The backing was made from the left over fabric from the kit.  I was surprised and excited to find that there was enough fabric leftover to piece together a backing.
This makes Finish #12 for the year.

This next one I quilted for Martha.  I love it!  Can't wait till I can show more of it.

This quilt belongs to Tish and isn't going in the show so I can show all of it.
She calls it "No More Peas Please".
She doesn't like a lot of dense quilting, so I did some straight lines through the chains and then some loops in the half square triangles.

I also finished all the quilting on my Summer Day quilt, I didn't take a picture of it yet though.  I am still working on hand stitching down the binding.  I have two more sides to go!  Should be done tonight and I will snap photos tomorrow.

April FNSI

For April's Friday Night Sew In we were challenged to make one pillowcase for for Conkerr Cancer, who distributes pillowcases to critically ill children.

I had 28 inches left of this cute frog fabric which is the perfect size for a pillowcase.   It came together super fast.  I even did the french seams on it and it was still fast to put together.

Which meant I could use the majority of my sewing time last night for finishing up the quilting and binding on Sara's Turning 20 quilt.

Sara, a guild mate of mine, had been gathering flower fabrics that represented each state where her children were born.  She also added some other fabrics that represented each child and her husband.  The top and bottom border are forestry fabric to represent her husband and his long career in that field.

I did an all over flowery loop quilting for this quilt.

I love all her flower fabrics, they are all so soft.  My favorite is this pink flowered fabric.

Lorene's Quilt

Here is the quilting I did on Lorene's Quilt
It is all freehand feathers and loops.
I did mark the arcs on the triangle blocks though so I could have a uniform shape for all the curved feathers.

I also marked some straight lines in the other triangle blocks so could have a line to base all the loops on and so the adjoining triangle loops would line up together.

I love all the blues and browns in this quilt.  Lorene did a great job picking out the colors for this beauty.

I didn't think it was that windy outside till I tried to take a photo of this quilt.
It is amazing what a little wind can do.

I finally got it to lay still for a brief second.

Tish's House Quilt

I've been busy quilting.
In between working on my own projects, I have been working on this House Quilt that Tish made.
She told me to add the blue border on for her and do what ever with it.

I had fun playing around with thise one.  I really love her woven pineapple.

I put some grass quilting in her front yard.

and did some more circle feathers.

I stitched around the windows and doors and the frame of the house, you can see those better from the back.

I also finished up Lorene's quilt this week. I will post that one tomorrow.

Now I am off to the machine to sew up some Baby Cake blocks.
I am watching the baby this week so I better take advantage of that afternoon nap!

Quilting Done for Sara

This was the first quilt I basted last night before Sheen decided to play around on my other quilt.
The top was made by a guild mate of mine named Sara.

I used a variegated pastel thread from YLI.  It looks great on every fabric in the quilt.

I started out with some in the ditch quilting to separate the diagonal rows.  Then did some open feathers in the triangle rows and some echoing loops in the 2 inch squares.

The borders got some swirls and wiggly lines.

Sarah picked a lovely blue for the back.

I used a matching thread so it is hard to see the quilting on the back.

I enjoyed working on this little quilt.  I will give it to Sara next Thursday during guild meeting.
