Welcome to the Eerie Nights blog hop!
I love being part of the Halloween hop each year. This year it was set up by Marian of Seams to be Sew and is being co-hosted by Amy of Sew Incredibly Crazy.
This year has been the year of making mini quilts for me and in following that theme I have made a mini quilt for Halloween. This quilt was inspired by the Halloween Mini craft swap I joined on Instagram. For my project I choose to create a mini wall hanging using the Midnight Bite pattern from Lilly Ella's World.
My partner posted the bat pattern in her idea mosaic on instagram. I had seen the pattern floating around the web myself and had been dying to try it out, so I went ahead and got the pattern. It went together nicely.
I added a two inch gray border border and decided to add some iron on studs to the wing joints.
Close up of the wing with some dark gray studs.
For the eyes I used some green iron on crystal gems. They shine eerily in the right lighting.
I added some purple piping in the binding and then sent it on its way. He is now spending his days hanging around in Texas.

In return my partner sent me this fancy witch hat decorated with sparkly purple spiders. And quilted with silver thread. It is hard to see the quilting in the photo but it is quilted spider webs! It is fabulous! It is super cool and even though I didn't make it, I had to show it off!
Make sure you check out the other swappers today as well:

Love the bat. I have been admiring it for awhile around the web. I might just have to make myself one. Very haunting!!
ReplyDeleteYour paper-pieced bat is awesome! I've tried paper piecing a few times, but I don't seem to have the knack. Your stitching is flawless. The fabrics you chose are perfect, and I love the metal studs you added. How lucky you are to have received such a great witch's hat. Very cute!

With the green eyes, the iron studs and the deep purple wings, it is perfectly spooky! Also, what a great swap partner to send you a crooked witch's hat...I love that too!

ReplyDeleteLeah, I think both the bat you made, and the witches hat you received are stellar! I'm not a paper piecing fan--at all, but I might be tempted by something so cute. I am a big fan of embellishments, though, and the little gems you added really do show well. I wouldn't have thought of using them so you've added a trick to my quilting bag.
ReplyDeleteYour Rafflecopter doesn't seem to be working, and I've had the same issue with other blogs throughout the hop. Not all, but a few. Just letting you know.
Julie, who is also in the hop as Pink Doxies
Thanks, I am thinking you only get one entry per item. I have had the same issue. If I log out of rafflecopeter it shows that I can enter, but once I log in it sees I already have one entry.
DeleteNow that is an awesome bat.

ReplyDeleteI absolutely LOVE your bat! It is fantastic. I would have had a really, really hard time parting with it. That being said, the quilt you received is fantastic. I love them both! How incredibly fun! (On an ironic note... I just shared a link to your fabric postcard tutorial on my blog. I follow the finishing instructions on every fabric postcard I make. Seeing you were participating in the blog hop today was all the more fun!)
