Happy New Year!

2012 was a great year for quilts around here. I completely finished 18 quilts of various sizes.

I was so close to getting 19 finishes for the year, I only needed to add binding to one more and I would have had it.  Instead I spent the remainder of 2012 playing games with the kids and visiting relatives.  The time was well spent and even though I didn't reach 19 finishes it all works out in the end. I got to visit and create memories and now I am super close to a finish for 2013. Hurrah!  :)

These are all 18 projects. A couple may look like duplicates, but they are slightly different.

Hopefully I can be just as productive for 2013.

2 More Finishes

Shirt Quilt #5 of 7.



I finished adding the binding yesterday.
This finish #17 for the year.






Shirt Quilt #6 of 7.

It is similar to shirt quilt #3, but it has different quilting.

 This is finish #18 for the year.

2 more done, only one 1 go,
I'm on the home stretch!

4th Shirt Quilt Finished

This is the 4th completed quilt of the 7 Shirt quilts I have been working on.

I finished the quilting last night and put the binding on this afternoon.

This quilt is similar to finished Shirt Quilt #2. 

The main difference is the rotation of the 9 patches, and the quilting.

This makes finish #16 for the year.

I have two more shirt quilts almost finished.
They have been quilted for awhile now, they just need binding put on.

I'll get that on tomorrow and then I will have two more finishes for the year.
Then I will only have one shirt quilt left to finish.
I can feel these being done in plenty of time for Christmas.

Faceted Jewels Completed!!

After more hours than I care to count I am finished with the quilting.

I quilted in the ditch around most of the quilt.

The only thing that didn't get ditch stitching was the smaller geese triangles.

Then I did freehand feathers, loops, and swirls.

The first time I ever saw this quilt was on Thelma's Cupcakes N Daisies blog and Instantly fell in love with it.

I have since seen this patterned also called "Eye Fooler" by Quail Valley Quilts.

It is my new favorite quilt.

So it was a little hard for me to put it in a box and mail it off to Asheville, NC.

It will hang in the 30th Annual Asheville Quilt Show September 28-30, 2012.

I'll go visit it on the Saturday though and I will get to take it back home with me on Sunday.

Back to Quilting Shirts

After finishing up Mr Mayor I started the quilting on Shirt Quilt #3. I finished it up and put the binding on yesterday morning.  I wanted to take a photo yesterday, but it was raining all day. I thought it was going to rain again all day toady too, but the sun finally came out this afternoon.

I did some big loops in each of the 4 patches.  The single patch got some smaller loops.

I did some meandering in the white sections and then wondered if I should have done something a little more fancy. But then I turned the quilt to the back and realized the meandering is perfect.

I love the back and how it looks like a totally different quilting design than it does from the front.

This makes three of the 6 shirt quilts finished.  And to give myself some extra work, I started a 7th top this morning.  I had enough squares to make 35 pinwheel blocks.  When I get further along on those I will post photos.

This makes finish #14 for the year.

Binding Complete...

And my Summer Day quilt is now ready to be gifted.

I didn't want this quilt too get too stiff with lots of quilting so I went with the all over swirls. I did to do a wee bit of custom quilting in the two borders though. Nothing too fancy, just something a little different than the rest of the quilt.

I found a great cupcake fabric for the backing and what makes it even better is that it was on sale!

I wanted to wrap it up and mail it right away, but my husband suggested I give it away in June when I can do it in person.

So per the name of the quilt, I will give it away one Summer Day in June.

This makes Finish #13 for the year.

Lots of Quilting Going On

I spent the past couple weeks busy quilting.  Some of my own stuff and some for others.  A couple of them are for my guild  quilt show in June.  I am so excited to show them off, but I don't want to spoil any surprises so I will only post some teasers of those.

This is the quilt I turned in for the show.  It was a kit from Connecting Threads that my mom gave me for Christmas a couple years ago.  The backing was made from the left over fabric from the kit.  I was surprised and excited to find that there was enough fabric leftover to piece together a backing.

This makes Finish #12 for the year.

This next one I quilted for Martha.  I love it!  Can't wait till I can show more of it.

This quilt belongs to Tish and isn't going in the show so I can show all of it.

She calls it "No More Peas Please".

She doesn't like a lot of dense quilting, so I did some straight lines through the chains and then some loops in the half square triangles.

I also finished all the quilting on my Summer Day quilt, I didn't take a picture of it yet though.  I am still working on hand stitching down the binding.  I have two more sides to go!  Should be done tonight and I will snap photos tomorrow.

First of the 9 Patch Quilts Finished

 I finally got the binding on this quilt this afternoon.

  That makes two complete quilts for my shirt quilt project. 

 And finish #11 for the year.

  Yay!!

T is for Turtle

I have finished this months "Another Year of Schnibbles" all the way down to the hand stitched binding.

The official name for the pattern is Bibelot, but I think I will call mine "T is for Turtles".

The fabrics remind me of green and brown turtle shells swimming in blue water.  

I picked a blue and green paisly-ish fabric from my stash for the back.

I had planned to do some fancy swirly stuff in all the T's but I thought that would take too long, so I decided to stitch in the ditch around EVERYTHING, which ended up taking as long as my previous plan.

Either way I Love It!!

 I am going to put it in the family room so it can keep little legs warm while watching tv.

I love this stripe binding.  

oh, and it is definitely cat approved.

This time Jasper had to take a turn sitting on it while I was adding the binding.

He rubbed his head all over the machine,

then stretched out and got comfy
