Halloween Half Square Triangle Quilt

I squeezed more more Halloween quilt in before it was time to Trick or Treat!

Even had time to take it down town to visit with the resident Skeletons.

Even Skeletons need quilts too.

This quilt went together pretty quick.  I was putting away the Halloween scraps from my previous two Halloween quilts thinking I was done with these till next year and then I saw two different Halloween charm packs.  I couldn't remember why I bought just one of each.  I usually get two charm packs so I have enough for a good sized quilt.

I wasn't sure what to do with one pack of each.  They did have similar coloring though, so I decided to combine them and make one quilt. Then I realized one pack only had 24 charms, so I added some extra squares from my yardage to get a full 42 charms for the second pack.  I also had two charm packs of Moda Grunge in Black and decided to turn all four packs into 168 Half Square Triangles.

The half square triangles sewed up super fast with chain piecing.  I probably spent more time squaring up the half square triangles than I did piecing the whole top, but it was worth it to have mostly matching points.

I quilted swirls and stars in orange thread, even over the black.
I am loving how it turned out!

I used up another Halloween print for the back, with a stripe in the center.
I have lots of bat prints on the front, so the bat flying in the photo was perfect.

Down town Lake City has some pretty fun Halloween Decorations.
Can't wait to see what they add next year.

Happy Halloween!

Falling for You Blog Hop

Welcome to my stop on the "I'm Falling for You" blog hop hosted by Joan of Moose Stash Quilting.

I have two projects to show off today.  The first project is a UFO I started when I joined the "Leafs Me Happy" blog hop oh so long ago in October of 2012. I have been putting this project on my Finish-A-Long lists for years and finally sewed the last stitch just in time for this hop!  Yay!

The pattern is a combination of two elements.
Bonnie Hunter's Spider Blocks and a pieced maple leaf block I found here.
The leaf pattern is for a 15.5 inch block, so I had to re-size it to fit in an 8.5 inch square.

I did some custom quilting on this one.  Playing around with my rulers, ribbon candy, leaves, and feathers.

I love how the sun really shows off the quilting.

I am so excited to have this one finished!.  It will be gracing my couch this Fall season.

Next up is another old project... sort of.  A couple years before I started the project above, I bought three fall themed charm packs with the intention of making the Charming Stars quilt by Stefanie of  Little Lady Patchwork.  Well last week I finally opened up those charm packs!  Wahoo!

This quilt went together super fast! These are big blocks with big pieces.

After I cut up the white background fabric I zipped out those star corners lickety split.

I didn't even spend hours trying not to get another print next to another print, I just put them on the design wall and let it go!

When I bought the charm packs I also bought a half yard of brown in the same fabric line, just in case.  Good thing,  it turned out perfect for the binding!

I did some all over leaf meandering for the quilting in a pastel yellow thread.  It matched perfect with the browns and oranges and didn't stand out too bright on the white.

The quilt is super soft and fluffy With the looser quilting.

I am loving this fabric and this pattern!  Yay for finally getting the fabric off the shelf and into a quilt!

I really enjoy playing along in these hops.  They really help me use up all the wonderful fabric I've pick up over the years. Not sure if I am quilter or more a fabric collector.  Haha!

I did another stripped backing for this one.  A lot of my fabric stash is two yard cuts or less.  That usually gets me the length of a quilt but not wide enough, so I slice it down the center and add smaller strips in the middle to fill it out out.

Great way to use stash up and add extra color and fun on the back.

Check out this fun brownish egg-ish fabric I used for the back.  I love it!

So there you have it...  One quilt 9 years in the making and the other quilt finished in week after I finally opened those charm packs I bought oh so long ago ago!

Island Batik Medallion Quilt - Holiday in the Woods

When I first read the theme for the December Island Batik Ambassador Challenge,  I knew I wanted to make a a huge Christmas quilt.  I got started on it right away because I wanted to have time to finish it before December ended.

I was doing great,  I had the pattern created in the first couple days, started making all the blocks and had the top ready to go a week before Christmas.

I started quilting it with the intention to show it off on Christmas Day and then Corona hit.  Bleh. I was down for the count for 15 days,  couldn't even stand up at the quilt machine.  But I am finally feeling better and now it is time to show of my December challenge quilt.  I call it Holiday in the Woods.

This was my center block.  Everything revolves around the evening star.

I had a lot of fun pulling different reds and greens to create all the different blocks.

I used several different fabrics from different Island Batik lines and fabrics from the foundations collections.

The Season Splendor line by Kathy Engle that hit stores in May had lots of greens and reds that fit perfect.

For the background I used Island Batik White fabric.

I pulled a scrap out of my personal Island batik collection for the roof of the houses.

I used a bit of green from the American Frontier Collection as well.

The yellows were also from the scrap bin.

Pinwheels, candy, and Stars all ready to be put in rows.

I used EQ 8 to get my rows the perfect size to fit each block.  I started with one center block and kept adding pieced borders to get the look I wanted.

Everything was sewn together using Schemtz needles.  Even the quilting was done with Schmetz.  That's what I love about my Bernina longarm. I can put what ever needle I want in there.

I quilted most of the quilt with White Aurifil Thread #2021.

I also used some Aurifil Yellow # 2120...

And Aufifil Red #2260.

This quilt is huge just like I wanted,  it measures approximately 84 x 84 inches.

I needed two quilt holders to hold this beauty up.

I am also happy to announce I will be an Island Batik Ambassador again for 2021.   Stay tuned to see what fun Island Batik projects I will be creating this year.
